Amateur MMA in Oxfordshire - MMA League coming to Warriors, Banbury

Some great news from our friends at Warriors Mixed Martial Arts who train out of the Fighting-Fit gym in Banbury. February 27th sees round 3 of the current UK MMA League come to town, an amateur-rules (no headshots) tournament open to all weights, styles and experience-levels.

The UK MMA League is the largest open mixed martial arts event in Europe and is now in its second year of operation. All competitors get at least one 5-minute fight. For the Banbury event fights will take place in the Warriors’ 16ft cage, making this a unique opportunity for Oxfordshire’s mixed martial artists to test themselves in an environment as close to a professional cage fight as possible.

Registration is open and must be completed before the day of the event.

Good luck to all fighters! MMA Oxford will be posting results and reports.

Quick updates - new MMA and BJJ classes

Man, time flies - sorry for the lack of recent activity.

Two things to tell you about. First up, RGAA is now RGAB - the expansion has continued with Roger Gracie brown belt Kevin Capel’s BJJ school now entitled Roger Gracie Academy Buckinghamshire. There has been a re-jig of the timetable too to include sessions dedicated to sparring as well as an extra Thursday class at High Wycombe Amateur Boxing Club.

Secondly there are some new details from Warriors MMA about their sessions that run out of the Fighting Fit Martial Arts Centre in Banbury. MMA classes are now on both Tuesdays and Fridays, plus Muay Thai has started up on a Monday night.

Full details, as ever, are in MMA Oxford’s clubs sections. I always welcome additions and revisions to the list, so please contribute if you can.

New Year: New Classes

Some new additions to the Clubs page both in the form of expansion of the Roger Gracie franchise. First up, the head of Roger Gracie Academy Aylesbury, Kevin Capel, has added a BJJ class at the High Wycombe Amateur Boxing Club on Tuesday nights. Secondly, the relatively new Oxford Martial Arts Academy (in Cowley) now boasts BJJ tuition on several week days under the tutelage of Bruno Zancaner and Luciano Cristovam, as well as classes in Muay Thai and Boxing.

If you make it to either club, let everyone know your thoughts on what they’re offering in the comments section below.

Upcoming: Jude Samuels Brazilian Jiu-jitsu (BJJ) seminar

Mauricio Gomes black belt and Roger Gracie Academy instructor Jude Samuels will be giving a 3 hour Brazilian Jiu-jitsu seminar at the new RGAA (Roger Gracie Academy Aylesbury) on November 1st. The seminar will cover both gi and no-gi grappling, and costs just £30.

This promises to be a great chance to train fairly locally with one of the first UK black belts in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and places are limited so act early. The flyer for the event can be found below. Details on the RGAA, which is only about a 40 minute drive from the centre of Oxford, can be found at the Clubs page.

Just a quick reminder to you all that, following last week’s first session, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu (BJJ) classes at Oxford Brookes with black belt Italo Ferreira continue tonight. Please see the clubs section for all the necessary information.

If your attending the sessions and would like to review them, please leave a message in the comments section below.
